How much does it cost?

In 2019 Sonitx began a government contract with data reporting requirements.

A total of 18,802 coils were cleaned and analyzed for air flow both before and after cleaning. The results were documented.

During that time, the data gathered painted a clear picture of the cost of coil cleaning in the Las Vegas Climate.

The Cost of our service over a five year period was

ZERO dollars

with the energy savings.

The government was able to put money BACK in its budget because of our services.

MORE DATA FOR DATA NERDS LIKE US:

Here are the calculations used based on data provided from the cleaning over 18,000 coils, broken down to represent a 2000 square ft retail space:

First, let's take a look at the actual COST of running the typical HVAC unit in Las Vegas.

Generally, the smallest Rooftop Units we come across on commercial buildings are three tons. So for these calculations, we'll use a three-ton unit.

Reasonable assumptions for Las Vegas:

  • Electricity Rate: According to recent data (October 2024), the average residential electricity rate in Nevada is around $0.1647/kWh (cents per kilowatt-hour). However, NV Energy, the primary provider in Las Vegas, has tiered rates and time-of-use pricing, which adds complexity. We'll use $0.17/kWh for a slightly conservative estimate that accounts for potential peak-time charges.
  • SEER Rating: We'll assume a SEER rating of 16, which is a good but not extreme efficiency level for a newer unit. Older units might be 10-14 SEER. Newer, high-efficiency units could be 18-26 SEER.
  • Cooling Season: Las Vegas has a very long cooling season. We'll estimate 9 months of significant AC use (March through November).
  • Run Time: This is the hardest to estimate without specific house data. We'll assume an average of 12 hours per day during the cooling season. This is a high-end estimate, but realistic for Las Vegas, where the AC might run almost constantly during the hottest months.
  • 3-Ton AC Unit Size: A 3-ton AC unit = 36,000 BTUs

Calculations:

Calculate the AC's Wattage:

A 3-ton AC unit has a cooling capacity of 36,000 BTU/hour (1 ton = 12,000 BTU/hour). The SEER rating tells us how many BTUs of cooling the unit provides per watt-hour of electricity. Watts = BTU/h / SEER = 36,000 BTU/hour / 16 = 2,250 watts Kilowatts (kW) = Watts / 1000 = 2.25 kW

Calculate Daily Energy Consumption:

kWh per day = kW * hours per day = 2.25 kW * 12 hours = 27 kWh/day

Calculate Monthly Energy Consumption:

kWh per month = kWh per day * 30.44 days/month = 27 kWh/day * 30.44 days/month = 821.88 kWh/month

Calculate Cooling Season Energy Consumption:

kWh per cooling season = kWh per month * number of cooling months = 821.88 kWh/month * 9 months = 7396.92 kWh

Calculate Annual Cooling Cost:

Annual cost = kWh per cooling season * cost per kWh = 7396.92 kWh * $0.17/kWh = $1257.48

Estimated Annual Cost:  Around $1257 per year.

Retail Store HVAC Costs:

For a 2000 Square ft Retail Store, we assume a 5-ton system with an estimated annual cost of $2800 per year.

Providing a range for 4-ton to 6-ton systems:

  • 4-ton System (48,000 BTU/hr): $2240 per year.
  • 5-ton System (60,000 BTU/hr): $2800 per year.
  • 6-ton System (72,000 BTU/hr): $3360 per year.

With an average cost per year of $2800, the cost over 5 years is approximately $14,000 for a 2000 square ft retail space.

Impact of Airflow Loss:

In our five-year study, the average decrease in airflow was 21%. A 21% airflow loss results in an increased electricity cost of $1468.50 over five years.

Sonitx Coil Cleaning + Electrostatic Filter Service

2000 square ft retail space HVAC Costs with Sonitx Service:

Baseline Cooling Cost (5 years): $2797.19/year * 5 years = $13,985.95

Evaporator Coil Cleaning Cost (once every 5 years): $500 (total for both units)

Condenser Coil Cleaning Cost (annually for 5 years): $20/year/unit * 2 units * 5 years = $200

Sonitx Filter Service Cost (Quarterly for 5 years): $112/year * 5 years = $560

Total Cost (Sonitx Service): Baseline energy + Evaporator cleaning + Condenser cleaning + Filter service: $13,985.95 + $500 + $200 + $560 = $15,245.95

Subtract the savings from NV Energy ($1,500): Your total cost over five years to run your HVAC system is $13,745.95, or $2749 per year, or $229 per month.

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

  • Without Maintenance: Over five years, you were already spending $14,000.
  • With ADDING Sonitx Service: Your cost is now lower at $13,745.95.
  • Added Benefits: Your coils stay clean, you never have to buy a filter, your system runs more efficiently with fewer breakdowns, and you don’t have to think about maintenance.

The end result, according to the measured data, is that using our full services contract costs you nothing.

The $21 per month you are already giving to NVEnergy, can be converted to a full service airflow contract for a total cost of zero.

Larger facilities fare even better.

If your electric bill is over $230/mo you've save even more.
